Back to School with Clover Kitty Goes to Kittygarten #ClassroomConnections

It’s almost time for school to begin—in one form or another! As a kid, one of my favorite things about school was spending time in the library (these were the days before media centers!). I’m so sad that this year, many school districts facing financial hardship have laid off librarians and media specialists. I’ve worked closely with many of these amazing people for my author visits. As you head back to school, I hope you’ll be vocal in your support for school librarians. And whether you’re counting on your school library or your public library for back-to-school books, I hope you’ll find Clover Kitty Goes to Kittygarten (Two Lions, illus by Hiroe Nakata) and give it a whirl.

School Library Journal: “VERDICT A perfect story to share at the beginning of the school year.”

Plus, here’s a roundup of 20 kindergarten back-to-school books!

And here’s Publishers Weekly’s Back to School 2020: A Children’s Book List.

And consider this post early encouragement to get your public library card if you don’t already have one :>) Next month is Library Card Sign-Up Month!

[My Classroom Connections posts share a way to connect one of my books or poems to a classroom topic–often something timely that you might be covering in the next month or so. Please share this post if you have educator friends who might be interested–thanks!]

  1. Congratulations, Laura! I’m excited to read it and wow! how much fun is it that you get to wear kitty ears and whiskers when you’re reading this book to kids?!

    1. Thanks, Laura–I got to read it aloud at two author visits back in February, and it was SOOO fun to read aloud in person. Someday…

  2. Thanks, Laura, for hopping over to my blog and sharing Clover Kitty with us! Such cuteness! And now, I really want a donut! With sprinkles…
