I found out in late November that If You Were the Moon was selected for a district-wide Battle of the Books in the Birdville ISD in Texas! On January 27, the Battle of the Books teams (two from each elementary school) will meet up at the W.G. Thomas Coliseum to compete and answer high-level questions written by the district librarians (who also chose the books). Moon is one of the 12 books that the K-3 teams will answer questions about. Whee! What a fabulous celebration of books, close reading, and teamwork!
You can read the complete lists of books here.
I got to peek at the handbook for the coaches, and it spells out the year-long process for making this cool event happen. Wow. Way to go, Birdville ISD and the Battle of the Books!
