This book was a 5-star rating on Goodreads for me recently, so I’m sharing it here:
All the Water in the World (Atheneum, 2011), by George Ella Lyon, and illustrated beautifully by Katherine Tillotson,?is one of the most glorious nonfiction picture books I’ve read in the past few years. It introduces kids to the?amazing fact that we have a certain amount of water in the world, and that is it. The water that falls as rain today might have been underground for millions of years. The shower you take tonight might include water that was snow during a blizzard long ago.?The book is so simple and striking and poetic and exciting. It’s full of movement and information. The design is as wonderful as the text and the art. And I love the voice. So, so wonderful.
I loved writing about the water cycle in There Goes the Water! A Science Song book (you sing it to the tune of Pop Goes the Weasel)?from Picture Window Books. It would be fun to pair these two books together as you teach about the water cycle.
Apple With Many Seeds has the Nonfiction Monday roundup today. Go learn something great!
I love George Ella Lyon’s writing and this sounds fascinating. Thanks Laura.

Hi Laura, this is not the first time I’ve seen a glowing review of this book. It really comes highly recommended. I hope I get the chance to read this soon.
I do, too, Myra! There’s so much energy in it, and every word just sings–it’s wonderful!

This is a fantastic resource and recommend it often to student teachers. Thanks for including it in this week’s Nonfiction Monday event.

AND, to state the obvious, George Ella is one of the world’s
sweetest human beans.
I have heard her read one time–at the Poetry Blast I was in the audience for, I think, a couple of years ago. She was so lovely and low-key. I hope to meet her and get to talk with her someday!

Laura, this is one of the most beautiful books I own. So glad to see you giving it some post attention!
There’s so much heart to it. I’m not quite sure how she did that, but I love it.
