Happy Poetry Friday! (Wondering what Poetry Friday is? Click here.) I’m happy to be hosting our community this week!
There are so many things I’d like to share, with National Poetry Month almost here, but I’m forcing myself to keep to just one thing. I’m in the midst of a blog tour for my newest picture book, Meet My Family! At its heart, this book is a rhyming poem spoken from the points of view of a variety of young animals. There are informational prose sidebars plus loads of backmatter, but I thought I’d share that rhyming text for Poetry Friday today.
Just click on that graphic if you’d like to learn more about the book. Thanks! It’s such a challenge getting word out about a specific book when there are so many wonderful children’s titles published each year. If you think the message and information of Meet My Family is worthwhile, I’d be grateful if you shared this post or the graphic :>)
Thanks for reading, and be sure to share to click on Mister Linky to add your link and find the other posts to visit. Happy Poetry Friday, everybody!
Thanks for hosting Laura, in the midst of all you have going on. I’ve missed my PF friends!
I hear that, Keri!
Brava! to you Laura for creating a unique way to talk about animal families, in your clever way with rhymes. And, for sailing along in the poetry madness. I expect to follow all the links this weekend during “me” time out of town helping out dear Elders in our family. Many appreciations for hosting.
p.s. feeling sweet heart tug from the Together. Three firefighter – Rufus poem. Fun to vote for it.
Oh, thank you, Jan! I’m so glad you liked it.
Thank you, Jan–I had a blast writing it! I hope you have a good weekend and DO find some time to take care of yourself (no matter how you spend it).
No one does creative NF like you, Laura – congratulations on another fun, informative book. Thanks for hosting today, and best wishes on your continuing Madness! (Oh, wait – maybe I should rephrase that…)
(my link goes live shortly after midnight)
Heehee. Thanks, Matt! I do love creative NF–though am shopping around several fiction pbs, too. Fingers crossed. Looking forward to your new book! And I’m sure my writing madness will continue, even if I lose at Madness Poetry:>)
Thanks for hosting this week. I’m looking forward to reading Meet My Family. From everything I’ve seen, it looks like a wonderful (and much needed) book. I’m sharing your link on my blog and on Twitter.
Thanks so much, Kimberly–I really appreciate that!
Laura, you are a whirlwind of poetic activity these days. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed your March Madness entries and can’t wait to read this newest book of yours. It looks fabulous! Thanks for hosting this week!
Thank you so much, Molly!
Happy Poetry Friday! Thanks for hosting. I’m delighted to say that Meet My Family is already in my middle school library. Annnnnnnnnnd, I’ve voted! I love the March madness poetry brackets. So much fun. I’m looking forward to poetry prompts with Renee LaTulippe next month too. This week at https://awordedgewiselindamitchell.blogspot.com/, I’m celebrating some of the poetry eighth graders in my school have found from pages of old novels.
Thank you, Linda, on several counts! I love found poetry, so can’t wait to read your post. Oooh, what’s Renee doing?
Hi Laura! I’ll write up an order card for Meet My Family as soon as I get into work tomorrow! All kids like animal books, so it should popular–the best of luck with it.
Music to my ears, Diane–thank you!
I’m not sure how you do it, Laura. Managing a blog tour, the March Madness competition, and hosting Poetry Friday besides?!!! I’d say it’s a good thing you can have a rest next month, but being National Poetry Month, I suspect that’s not going to happen either. Hope you’ve been taking your vitamins! 😉
Here’s the awful thing…I haven’t figured out yet what I’m doing for NPM. Ack! I think I’ll look for someone elsee’s idea/activity to join in on. Just chewed my daily vitamins. Poetry Power!
I was surprised that you were hosting today with all you have going on, and of course you probably didn’t know about March Madness when you signed up. The girls love your book, thanks again, and I will share your graphic again. Thanks very much for hosting, & best wishes in the poetry! I loved your poem today!
You are so right, Linda, about not knowing. But it’s all good. I haven’t been getting to enough blogs on PFs, so this is a good thing. Forces me to visit everyone, and I fall in love with PF and its poets all over again:>) Thanks for sharing the graphic!
Congrats on the new book. Looking forward to reading Meet My Family. Thanks for hosting this week and good luck with March Madness!
Thanks, Jama!
I ordered this book from the library, and I’ll be excited to read it. Looks great, Laura!
Thanks, Brenda! I hope you enjoy it:>)
CONGRATS again on the new book, Laura – can’t wait to see/read it! And thank you for twirling the PF Lasso while riding through your very busy Spring! (Happy Spring, by the way…. hope it makes its way to you soon!)
Yeehaw! Your comment just made me feel so energetic:>) Thanks, Robyn.
Thank you for hosting Laura and for sharing an innovative way of blending poetry (rhyming verse) and informative text as a hybrid. Good luck with your publication.
Thanks, Alan! Rhyming text with prose sidebars or backmatter to give more of the science background–it’s just one of my favorite things to write:>)
Oh my goodness, Laura. I love the poem in Meet My Family. I can’t wait to check the book out and share it with everyone! Thanks for hosting amidst all the Madness. 🙂
Thank you so much, Rebecca! Book sharing is the kindest gift to writers, right? Much appreciated!
Your poem in this round…I absolutely love it. It is its own picture book. Thank you for hosting in all of this busy time – and so many congratulations on all of it. You give so much to the world! Happy Poetry Friday and Peace… xx
Thank you, Amy, on all counts! Even though I’m swamped, I’m so happy to be hosting as I haven’t been visiting enough PF blogs lately. :>)
I’m looking forward to reading your new book, “Meet My Family!” Thanks for sharing it here! All the best with Madness Poetry–what a whirlwind event that beams with non-stop excitement! I’ll be following and voting as it winds down. Thanks for hosting Laura!
Whirlwind is right! Thanks for voting!
Thank you for hosting today, Laura! You know how much I adore Meet My Family. Congratulations!
Really cool graphic for Meet My Family, Laura! You are amazing — managing your book launch while also being in the Madness!! Wow! Thanks for hosting.
Thanks, Tabatha–and, well, that was a little crazy of me:>)
Laura,
Looking forward to checking out Meet My Family! Thanks for the reminder about Poetry Madness. I had completely lost track of that this year. I can’t wait to stop by to vote and see what has been happening. Finally, thank you for hosting.
Here’s today’s poem: Robin Knows
http://merelydaybyday.blogspot.com/2018/03/slice-of-life-robin-knows-23-of-31.html
Thanks, Cathy, on both counts. And for your lovely, watchful robin.
Meet My Family looks perfect for my classroom library. I’m looking forward to having my own copy! Thanks to Carol (http://carolwscorner.blogspot.com/2018/03/slice-22-angels-among-us.html) for encouraging me to cross post my Slice of Life for 3-22-18. I’ve been noticing Poetry Friday posts for years, so I’m glad to finally join in.
Thank you, Tamara–I hope you like it! And welcome to Poetry Friday. We are ALWAYS happy to welcome any newcomers. Please come back:>)
Congratulations, Laura. The book looks wonderful. My animal-loving poetry-writing Kindergarteners are going to LOVE it!
Dear Laura, you know I love your FAMILY, and YOU! A little madness is good… you can sleep when you’re dead (as a dear friend of mine often says!). Of course I myself am a huge fan of NAPS. Wishing you one of those today! xo
Thank you, Irene! Ah, naps. How I wish. I am usually physically unable, even if exhausted. I hate that! But poetry revitalizes me even more than a nap, I think:>)
Thanks for hosting today, Laura! I can’t wait to read and share your newest book!
Thank you, Kay! I appreciate it:>)
So excited to check out your latest book! And thanks for the reminder about Madness Poetry (totally forgot about it).
Congratulations!! Thanks for hosting! 🙂
Laura,
Congratulations on your newest book! I’ll have to order a copy for my granddaughters.
At Wild Rose Reader, I have the poem that I wrote for WORLD MAKE WAY: New Poems Inspired by Art from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, edited by Lee Bennett Hopkins. The book is due for release on March 27th. My poem is titled Night-Shining White.
Thank you, Elaine! I hope they like it!
Beautiful, Laura! “Each family’s different–/Each family is just right!” Your poem/book inspired my little “Family Matters” poem this morning. Thank you!
This just looks and sounds so fantastic – I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy, and share it on my blog!! 🙂
Thanks–I JUST picked up Wild One yesterday, so it’s in my to-read stack. Woohoo!
Thanks for being the poetry hostess this week, Laura. I just tweeted out about your new book. It’s good that you are exploring themes of STEM and diversity. On my blog today, I announced the April 9th #NYEDChat / #WonderChat that you are guest moderating with Irene and Charles. Can’t wait.
Your poems are bringing a breath of fresh air to the madness this month–I especially enjoyed your terse verse this round. And congrats again for Meet My Family!
Thanks, Buffy! Today, a second try at “spurious.” My poem is due by midnight–ack!
