?I’ll be going to NCTE in Boston soon, and I can’t wait! I’ll be there sharing my nonfiction picture book, A LEAF CAN BE…. On the agenda so far:
- A’signing for A LEAF CAN BE… on Friday from 4-5 p.m. at the Lerner Booth #822
- A table at the Books for Children Luncheon on Saturday
- Children’s Literature Assembly Master Class Saturday evening at 5:45 (I’m mostly behind-the-scenes on that one)
- Author speed-dating at the NCTE Notables Session on Sunday afternoon (I think 1-2:30)
- Get-togethers with other poets and poetry bloggers
- Hopefully meeting and chatting with lots of educators
I wanted to make a promo item to give away at these various events, but I wanted something that would stand out a bit from the thousands of postcards and bookmarks handed out there. I decided to capitalize on Violeta Dabija’s wonderful art for a LEAF bookmark. I used Overnightprints.com, and I designed these, leaving space at the top to add on a fabric leaf with a bit of double-sided tape. I’m happy with how they came out–and they were $40 for 250. I would’ve bought more, but I hate to order huge numbers before I see something in person. And soon I’ll have a new book to promote, so future materials will focus on that one.
Anyway, if you’re going to be in Boston, I hope I’ll see you there!
P.S. If you’re a LEAF fan, stop back by tomorrow to see what a cool class of third-graders did with the book!
Check out Wrapped in Foil for this week’s Nonfiction Monday Roundup!?
I am so sad I am not going to NCTE this year. I love your bookmarks. Please consider doing a give-away on your blog if you end up with extras. That’s wishful thinking on my part.
Good luck with all the goings on. I hope you are not so packed with stuff that you don’t enjoy Boston.
I’m sorry you won’t be in Boston, Margaret. If you send me your snail mail address (click on Contact from this page: https://laurasalas.com/aboutme.html or any other page inside my website) I’ll send you out a bookmark:>) I’ll get one afternoon in Boston of free time before NCTE. Not sure what I’m going to do. Then it will be nonstop sessions, signings, classes, and meetups with poetry friends–all of which will be wonderful! But exhausting. Wish I had time and $ for a couple of extra days to explore–I’ve only been to Boston once, and loved it!

Thanks, Mary!

Nice idea for the bookmarks. I don’t know how close it is to where you’ll be, but there’s always the Eric Carle Museum. 🙂
Oooh, I’ll check. Thanks! I think it’s out a bit and I won’t have time, but that would be wonderful…

Laura, my husband just read your delightful book (he’s a fourth grade teacher) and this was his absolutely favorite page of the whole book. I LOVE your bookmarks!!!!
Thanks, Nancy! And I received your book (thank you!) and am looking forward to getting started on it. Your YES YOU CAN books are fabulous!

Bravo, Laura! I know your book will be a huge hit — it’s so lovely (and Fall is my favorite season so it’s particularly dear to me).
Thank you, Jeanne:>) (And me, too, on fall!)
