What a cute cautionary tale! This picture book is written as advice given directly to a young vampiress who wants to be a ballerina. A fun mix of advice
that’s good for everyone (“Once class begins, keep your eyes and ears open and your mouth closed.”) and that’s really good only for vampires (“The sight of
your fangs might make the other dancers forget fifth position.”). Clever and funny (“Always get a good day’s sleep.”), this picture book also imparts the wisdom that becoming anything wonderful takes a lot of hard work–but it’s worth it. I love how expressive the main character is, thanks to illustrator LeUyen Pham’s wonderful illustrations. And the text, by (full disclosure) my writer friend Anne Marie Pace, is terrific.
