Welcome to Rock the Blog: March 2015

It's here!
It’s here!

Wheee! It’s publication day for A Rock Can Be…, my third and final Can Be… book with Millbrook Press! I’m celebrating here on my blog all month with pictures of rocks. I’ve gathered some interesting adjectives from teachers and kids, and each day, I’ll post a new picture of a rock (taken by me this month or sometime in the past) that I think fits one of those adjectives. In fact, I’ll be traveling around some, looking for rocks JUST for this celebration. I hope it will not only show you some cool rocks, but also get you thinking about ordinary rocks in a whole new way. You can learn more about my book on my website, where I have links to reviews, a book trailer, a teaching guide, and more. Enjoy!

  1. Congratulations, Laura! So happy for you. I had planned to get into some classrooms with A Rock Can Be… before the 15th, but the Mother Nature had other ideas! Can’t wait to see what the words & photos you have in store for us.

    1. It’s fun and challenging, choosing/taking the photos so far. I’m working just a few days ahead because there might be some off-the-grid days this month. Hope your storms are over…what a winter for some of you!

  3. Congratulations Laura. I love the yellow cover. May your sales be as abundant as those special rocks.

    1. That is so sweet! As much as I’m a fan of cool blues and greens, and I find LEAF and WATER more beautiful from a dreamy/aesthetic pov, there is something about this little crab on his rocks that makes me smile each time I see it. That sunny yellow cover does make me feel very cheerful…

  9. This is such a wonderful series of books, Laura. And I love that you end it on this great and solid note. Just holding a rock in my palm can center me back to what matters. So many congratulations to you on these beautiful nonfiction poem books. A Book Can Be…grand!

    1. Yes on centering. That’s how a good palm-rock makes me feel, too. And then huge rocks–mountains, formations, etc., make me feel so safe. Thanks, Amy:>)
