Make a Scene: Crafting a Powerful Story One Scene at a Time, by Jordan E. Rosenfeld, is practically bleeding purple from all the highlighting I did in it. This book is great for improving your scene structures and your overall book structure. It’s most applicable to novels, but as I’m flipping through it to choose a quick quote, I’m realizing there’s plenty in here that applies to picture books, too. Time for?me to re-read!?Quick quote: “Every time you begin a scene you want to ask yourself: What does my protagonist want, need, and intend to do?…1) What are the most immediate desires of the character?…2) When will your characters achieve their intention or meet with opposition?…3) Does the scene intention make sense to your plot?…4) Who will help your characters achieve their goal?”
