Dizzy Dinosaurs: Silly Dino Poems (An I Can Read Book)

June 23, 2010 By Laura

I’m so excited! I got an F&G (a folded and gathered set of printed pages, kind of like an ARC, but for a picture book) a couple of days ago for Dizzy Dinosaurs: Silly Dino Poems. Why is that so exciting? Because it’s one of Lee Bennett Hopkins’ terrific easy reader poetry anthologies and–wait for it–I HAVE A POEM IN IT!

OK, sorry to shout. But inclusion in one of Lee’s anthologies has been my goal ever since I started reading and writing children’s poetry. I can hardly believe I’m going to have a poem in one of his books. Yay!

My poem is about a dinosaur who can spell lots of great words–but not his own name (darn those long dino names). I’m crazy busy and haven’t even had time to sit down and read the whole book, but to add to the terrificness, many poets/writers I love are in there, including Rebecca Kai Dotlich, writers/bloggers Linda Kulp, Douglas Florian, and Kristy Dempsey, and more.

It comes out from HarperCollins in February of 2011, so I guess it’ll be a while before I share more about it. But–yay!
