Lullaby and Kisses Sweet–a New Lee Bennett Hopkins Anthology

Yippee! Lee Bennett Hopkins has a new anthology coming out on March 3, and it’s the cutest board book I’ve seen in ages. It’s called Lullaby and Kisses Sweet: Poems to Love with Your Baby (Abrams). Lee notified everyone that the book is on sale for a great price right now in pre-order on Amazon, so that’s why I’m sharing it right now, in case you want to get in on the deal.

This book is bursting with 30 short rhyming poems, and I love the art (by Alyssa Nassner) almost as much as I love the poems. I even really love the design/fonts used. It’s just about perfect for the baby or toddler in your life.

I’m beyond proud to have a poem in here, along with SO many poets whose work I’m a big fan of. There’s Rebecca Kai Dotlich, Lee himself, David L. Harrison, J. Patrick Lewis, Linda Kulp, Marilyn Singer, Robyn Hood Black, Heidi Stemple, Matt Forrest, Amy Ludwig Vanderwater, and, well, the list just goes on!

Here’s mine:

Spaghetti

Spaghetti scoots around my plate.
It twirls, curls. It won’t stay straight.
I slurp one noodle’reach for more.
Oops!
Most of lunch is on the floor.

I wish you could see the spaghetti-covered kitten that goes with the poem:>)

I hope you enjoy it–it’s really a treat.

  1. This looks like a real treat even if you don’t have a baby or toddler in your life. Maybe I’ll get it, read it, and put it in my hope chest for grandchildren some day. Congratulations on being included. I remember that my husband would play spaghetti head with the baby by placing cooked noodles on their bald heads. ( All of mine were bald until about age 3.)

    1. Not a bad idea. It’s a little gem for anyone who loves words and pictures:>) Spaghetti-head! What a fun game. I had hairy children, so there was never a bald head for that, but I’m now picturing them with little farfalle bowties on their heads!

  3. What a great baby shower gift. Love the humor in your poem! Congratulations in being included in a terrific anthology!

    1. Thank you, Linda. Lee Bennett Hopkins’ books largely hooked me on children’s poetry, so being in one of his anthologies is a huge honor!

  5. Congratulations, Laura! Your poem is making me hungry! I have several great nephews who are the perfect age for this collection. (They’ll love “Spaghetti” too!)
