J. Patrick Lewis and Douglas Florian–TOGETHER? Yep! They have a new funny car poetry collection out called POEM-MOBILES! It’s full of whimsical, punny poems by Pat and Douglas–because what else would you expect when these two madly funny men (funny madmen?) get together? And it’s illustrated with’very cool, can’t-even-figure-out-how-to-describe-it art by Jeremy Holmes. (Explore the art further with this fabulous post at Seven Impossible Things Before Breakfast.) Your car-crazed young readers will love it (and so will non-car fanatics–I’m proof!). Here’s one of my favorites:
Bathtub Car
With hot-water heating
And porcelain seating,
The Bathtub is speeding–
A white limousine
That’s sudsy with bubbles.
Forget your car troubles.
Its purpose? It doubles
By keeping you clean!

And here I am reading this poem.
Isn’t that delightful? (The varying indents were lost to WordPress formatting–grrr.)?I love it. Of course, I’m a lot more partial to baths than to cars, so that could explain why this is one of my particular favorites:>) But if you like dragons or dinosaurs or high heels or paper clips or just about anything, there is a related poem in this book!
The Poetry Friday Roundup today is being wrangled by Liz at Elizabeth Steinglass. Have fun!
I love his poems, and this one is no different.
He’s reliably great:>)

Isn’t it? I want one!

This is a fun poem and new writer to me
I hope to get to read some moor of his poems sometime
Both Pat and Douglas have zillions of poetry collections, Jessica. They are both wonderful writers (and Douglas is a terrific artist, as well, though he didn’t illustrate this collection).

Wanted to feature this book in April, but alas, had to go offline. It’s fabulous and double the fun with two of my fave poets! Love the Bathtub Car. 🙂
When I first read about this book, I assumed it was Pat writing and Douglas illustrating. Wrong! It was fun to see three geniuses combine in a book. Already loved the writers, but discovered a new-to-me illustrator whose work is fabulous, too. Win-win-win.

Feeling lucky to be able to enjoy two J. Patrick Lewis poems on one Poetry Friday. Did you see that Renee posted one too?
No! I’ll have to make it over there:>)
