Car with Eyelashes [15 Words or Less]

Hello, and welcome! This is 15 Words or Less Poems, a low-pressure way to wake up your poetry brain (guidelines here), and I’m very glad you’re here.

I’m not a car person, but I saw this cutie parked in our neighborhood recently.

Car with Eyelashes
Photo: Laura P. Salas

This image makes me think of several things:

  1. a robot that flirts
  2. the ELO song, “Yours Truly, 2095” (lyrics here)
  3. the falsie eyelash craze–it freaks me out!

And here’s my first draft.

It’s your turn! Have fun and stick to 15 WORDS OR LESS! (Title doesn’t count toward word count.)

  1. Bugs make my heart happy. And bugs with eyelashes–definitely vroomety vroom!!! 🙂

  2. My answer to your poem, Laura. (Your poem was as cute as the car!)

    My Macho Machine

    Those fluttering eyelashes
    could cause a crash.
    My car is going to
    wear a mustache’.

(Yes, my dictionary said the accent could be on the end syllable!)

  3. Your poem is so much fun, Laura! Here’s mine:

    Star Light, Star Bright

    I wish upon
    the brightest star
    a transformation -
    red eyelashed car!

    1. What a wish! Something about your poem made me picture a whole infomercial of beauty products for cars!

  4. Love your poppy in bloom and vroomety-vroom, Laura. With no cars nearby, you have to wonder how this driver could not get closer to the curb or in its spot. The lashes just made it funny.

    Can’t See to Park

    Adequate space
    and plenty of time,
    yet you managed
    to park on the line.

    1. Isn’t that the truth! Maybe the eyelashes obscured the car’s vision. Hehe. Seriously, I’d like to print out a bunch of yours to put under people’s windshield wipers when they don’t even TRY to stay in one space.

  5. Oh my goodness, never have I even imagined such. But, I strive to learn something new every day! Just when you think you’ve seen it all. I like your vroomety vroom! I couldn’t decide between two. One because of the angle of the pic.

    Inspection Restriction

    Daytime only
    no road time at night
    should you blink
    lashes impede sight.

    Showoff

    New owner
    takes me for a spin
    round and round
    don’t you know
    vertigo.

    1. I love both directions you took it. Yeah, those lashes would be dangerous at night! And I love how you captured the tilt of the photo in the vertigo poem.

  6. My spouse and daughter are always on the lookout for cute faces in cars–but this reminded me of moth wings.

    Moth’s Disguise

    Scary eyes
    on scaly wings–
    the face of an owl,
    the fear it brings!

    1. I saw some owl butterflies in a recent traveling butterfly garden. They are pretty shocking! Nice alliteration:>)

  7. What a fun poem you penned from that image Laura! And those are some hum-dinger of lashes you’ve shared with us, thanks!

    Dashing Lashes

    Like my lashes
    tag along…
    They’re premiering next
In the hoods of Hong Kong

    1. What a come-on! I like the alliteration and the /a/ sounds in the first couple of lines, Michelle:>)

  8. poems by Jessica Bigi

    our new car
    mom sad
    full of horses power at
    seven I
    wondered how horses
    under the hood

    Bumper Cars

    remembering
    seat belts that didn’t fit
    sparks as hook dragged celling
    smelling rubber
    driving at nine
    bumping into sister’s car
    bragging on the way home

    1. Ha! Isn’t the term horsepower confusing to a kid? And you brought back great memories of childhood bumper cars…though we still love them today, too:>)

  9. VERY CUTE POEM! I LIKE THE CHALLENGE OF ONLY 15 WORDS. MINE’S NOT CARS, BUT…AUTUMN LEAVES

    Twirling, swirling to the ground.
    Raking, making one huge mound.
    Racing, chasing…in we bound!

    1. Great, Dianne! Whatever the photo inspires in you! Nice rhymes–wasn’t expecting “mound,” and I don’t know why. Feels very natural!
