Come In? [Poetry Friday]

Happy Poetry Friday! (Wondering what Poetry Friday is? Click here.)

I do not feel ready for 2020–in so many ways. But time doesn’t pause just because we need time to catch up (wouldn’t it be cool if it did?!), so here’s my poem from my poetry diary earlier this week.

Come In, a poem by Laura Purdie Salas

And for lots of wonderful poetry, don’t miss the Poetry Friday Roundup at Carol’s Corner!

  1. That’s a gorgeous photo–and the outline of the passageway looks like a rorschach test. I see a profile, and wonder what he’s thinking as he stands on your doorstep! Happy new year to you.

    1. Oh my gosh, you’re right! I think it’s a fisherman (something about the angle of what looks like a hat to me), come to tell me he caught no fish but brought me donuts instead. You know, to help me get used to the idea of a whole new decade! Happy new year, Buffy!

  2. Love your poem and the image. I see two side-profile faces looking at each other in the black parts of your image — an older grandparently kind of face on the left and, in the bottom half of the right a child’s face with a very cute fringe. Perhaps the older year telling the new one it will be okay.

  3. I love this! I’m feeling “not ready for company” too this year. I guess I should try opening the door, instead of pushing hard against it with my shoulder!

  4. I see those two faces, too, Laura. What an amazing photo, & your poem says it all; reluctantly, like it or not, the year is welcomed! Happy New 2020!

  5. I see the faces too! And, I love the human frailty of not being ready supported by the sturdy, strong rock and dependable sunrise that can handle our not being ready. They are…and it’s going to be OK.

  6. That image is amazing! Knock, come in. I’m ready this year. I know there are good things coming!
(I put my comment in the wrong place. I skipped over the doorstep. Ha!)

  7. “…but I opened the door
    anyway.”

Such a good way to live. Welcoming, risk-taking, not too caught up in “what will they think?”

  8. I loved your poem. It seems that every time I set out to clean the house because it is an absolute wreck, someone decides to pay me a surprise visit. Perfect analogy.

  9. So fitting, Laura. Are we ever ready for time to pass? Happy New Year to you. Wishing you joyful words.

  10. I love the simplicity here and how relateable guests arriving too early is. This year I think I pulled the early visitor inside and told them to get cooking 🙂

  11. Oh, the mysterious and wonder in your short poem–so inviting… Thanks for opening the door, I wasn’t ready either… and for your wonder-filled image!

  12. What a gorgeous photo, one for me to dream upon as I tuck myself into bed. The poem is a great accompaniment, Laura. Happy New Year. I hope you stepped right in with joy.
