Dino [15 words or less poems]

Photo: Laura Purdie Salas

Wake up your poetry brains with 15 Words or Less (guidelines here)!

15WOLs

I had an amazing time in Sheboygan for the Children’s Book Festival. Will share a few highlights next week. Meanwhile, here’s a pic I took at Bookworm Gardens, my new favorite place!? This image makes me think of:

1) what would dinosaurs read?
2) maybe the dinosaur saw Medusa–or read a book about her?
3) how would a dinosaur treat a library book?

And here’s my?first draft.

I’m Almost Done!

My stomach growls.

My turn to cook?

I’ll roast the caveman

right after this book!

Now it’s your turn! Have fun and stick to 15 WORDS OR LESS!??(Title doesn’t count toward word count:>)?

    1. I love this one, Diane! (How long DO you spend on these?) I love the idea of fixing armor with art. So needed.

  11. Page after Page

    Searching for
    a spell or potion
    to soothe cracked skin -
    a healing lotion.

Just LOVE the picture. Roast the caveman — ha. I like how he has to finish the book first!

    1. Thanks, ellie–aw, the poor dinosaur. I know how he feels. Minnesota winters are not kind to the skin:>)

    2. I like your idea of finding a potion to work as a lotion for that cracked skin.

    ?Mary, Mary, quite contrary?
    — Two-footed, house dweller, hairy -
    Books about people are scary!

  19. Great sense of humor, Laura! 🙂

I’m pushing it with my parasaurolophus rhyme (had to learn how to pronounce it first), but what the heck:

    Parasaurolophus,
    without focus,
    couldn’t read a page.
    Reminiscing,
    specs went missing
    back in mesozoic age.

  21. First thing I noticed was that terrible cracked back, poor thing.

    I tried to move,
    but heard a crack,
    felt a terrible
    pain in my back.

    1. I noticed the crack also I thought of the out side being a cell and a freckled colored egg inside

  23. Hi Laura. Late signing on but enjoyed everyone’s comments and replies. I have been a library volunteer for almost a dozen years, thus my interpretation of the picture.

    Relief

    Matter of fact
    the cracks in my back
    mandate reading
    from atop the stacks.

    1. Hi, Martha. I posted late today, too. We just got home last night.
I wasn’t going to post, but I couldn’t resist checking the picture and then I couldn’t stop myself. I like your idea. We both thought of aching backs. I know what you mean about putting away those library books on the lower shelves. Ouch!

  25. WHAT’S COOKIN’ AT THE CRETACEOUS CAFE?

    What’s for lunch?
    Conifer Crunch?
    Perhaps a Parasaurolophus specialty
    Would please an herbivore
    like me!

    1. I can just see a (gaggle of?) dinosaurs perusing the menu at some fancy tearoom! I wonder if they were “big” tippers? Great poem for imagery!

      1. Thanks Karen. I get the extinct…I mean distinct feeling that they were more of the dine and dash/eat and run type…ha ha.

    Tiny babysaurus;
    Hearing tales of yesteryear,
    Begging then for more-ous!

    1. Love the play on words and use of “more-ous”! I can see that little tike with his sleepy crowned head asking for just one more storyasaurus!
