Hello, and welcome! This is 15 Words or Less Poems, a low-pressure way to wake up your poetry brain (guidelines here), and I’m very glad you’re here.

Photo: Laura P. Salas
We went to the Eiffel Tower kind of on a whim, on our last day in Paris. Wow. It was just so beautiful and elegant. We ended up going to the top, since there were no crowds! This image makes me think of several things:
- how the thirst for beauty, knowledge, and God always gets personified as stretching upward
- garden ornaments
- the apartment at the very top
And here’s my first draft. I had fun writing this For Rent ad!
It’s your turn! Have fun and stick to 15 WORDS OR LESS! (Title doesn’t count toward word count.)

Sunbeams and moonshine

Love the metaphor of a hand to the sky gently stretching.
sunbeams and moonshine….what dancing partners! Love those in the poem.
“a hand to the sky” is a lovely image!
Amelia, love the last two lines, especially trickling.
Amelia, Martha O’Q here, anonymous again. Says I’m awaiting moderation but a subsequent reply went through in proper form. “Sighberspace” gremlins are at it again, I suppose.
I really like the delicate picture this paints, Amelia, with gracefully and trickling:>)
Beautiful imagery I can just seethe hand reaching and the beams of sun and moon as I read your poem
My husband and I went to Paris to celebrate our 15th anniversary. Our hotel was near the tower. We are coming up of 35 years, so this is a nice memory.
That summer
we walked all over Paris,
the tower beckoned,
stood guard,
guided us home.
Beacon of light…..I need to get on a plane right now. I’ve never been. I need Paris.
What a nice way to remember your anniversary! Hey, just an idea…Could you maybe “borrow” the image (with Laura’s permission or find another maybe YOU took) and put your 15 words on it – send it in to easyCanvas or somewhere like it…make an anniversary gift…for your 35th, remembering your 15th in 15 words…
Just a thought!
Margaret, perfect in that your hotel was nearby. Majestic beacon.
Ah, that is such a lovely, cozy poem, Margaret:>)
I like that the towers light giddied you home we all knead the beacon right now in these times
Fun! I want that apartment at the top…..well, maybe just to visit.

Have a great day everybody! I have a full day of Science Boot Camp in the library with 8th graders. We invited a real army drill sergeant to call some cadences for kids to move from station to station. Ha! Should be fun.

Linda, I love the use of cloudy instead of sunny skies. Unexpected! Hope Science Boot Camp is a blast!
Ella…Love that you got that song in there, and the whole Love tradition!
I like that the towers light giddied you home we all knead the beacon right now in these times
I love the song not you added

Hehe! I never would have had the courage to actually climb the steps up. Way too exposed for me. Your poem perfectly captures what I would have felt.
It’s sooooooooooooooooo far up there!
HA! I love, Love, LOVE when this happens! Delighted by that picture and the way you’ve played with it – and the words came out in one fell swoop! 15 words, 30 seconds. LOVE, Love, love…giggle!

Donna, I hear your laughter. Well done. I also enjoyed your “Ode to a Tissue” on TLD’s site this morning. Poingnant!
Oh, glad you got here for some tissues, too! That was also a fun write.
Yes, what a gift when it happens. This is so liquid and lovely and peaceful, Donna!
“Liquid” – love that term!
This is really, nice. I love the paintbrush….painters in Paris. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Lovely.
Second attempt Laura. My first try supposedly “went” but I never received the confirm screen, so this should not be a duplicate. Love the sky (is it filtered?) and a new take on “tiny houses.”
Symbolic and Simplified

sky’s the limit

schematic for life.
It is filtered–the original pic is lovely, too, I think. But I like the “unreality” of filtered pics. Gets rid of some of the details and lets me morph things into other things more easily:>) You can see the original here: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10210712400798414&l=77cb067233
What a beautiful analogy! And how often do I see “schematic” in a poem. Love that! And it perfectly fits this feat of engineering.
You are correct. The original pic is awesome; the filtered version displays a more light, whimsical voice which fits perfectly with the 15 WOL participation.
The sky truly is the limit. Very nice imagery

Poem By Jessica Bigi
To remember our
Country’s young
Our forefathers
Forging steel
Hammers of
Sparking stars
Beamed giant
Reflecting peace
Thanks, Jessica. It’s one of my favorite pics from our trip. Love how you connected the steel to our young country–and those hammers sparking stars–gorgeous!
I like “beamed giant”! It is!
hammers sparking stars….makes me think of those strong muscled guys in a forge. Great image. Strong and clean.
I had no idea the Eiffel Tower was supposed to be a temporary structure, ironic in view of the poem I wrote. I did know Parisians were against it at first. The history I just browsed to find a title for my poem is fascinating. Still no title comes to mind and I am out of time.
When Paris crumbles
to empty space,
will I still stand
to mark her place?
This brings to mind a Mad Max scene, Lauren! That first line is so evocative (not if, but when). Oi.
Sad to think of a city crumbling.
Reminds me of the Statue of Liberty scene in Planet of the Apes.
KALEIDOSCOPE
Iron rises,
Pierces the sky
Revealing triangles of truth
Like fractured light through a kaleidoscope.
Thanks for sharing the inspiring (and beautiful) picture!
Ann Magee
Thanks, Ann–glad you enjoyed the photo. It was one of my favorites from the trip! Great, strong words: iron, pierces, revealing, fractured
Love the perspective on this photograph–and the cool effect you added!
Stained Glass Sky
Towering branches cut panes
of pink and blue sky,
sunlight fuses them
together.
Oh, lovely! And tree branches are the leading in between…
Sunlight fuses….that’s it…right there.
What a lovely picture! I love the look of the sky.
HIGH RISE TOO HIGH
They built the tower high
until it touched the sky.
The blue shattered;
everyone scattered.
Yikes, what a scene!
Oh, wow. the shattered blue.
View From the Eiffel Tower
Caught in the mist.
Nothing but rain.
Can’t see a thing.
Oh, what a pain.
Hehe–yup, pretty much!
