ELO Light Show [15 Words or Less]

Hello, and welcome! This is 15 Words or Less Poems, a low-pressure way to wake up your poetry brain (guidelines here), and I’m very glad you’re here.

Summer’s over, folks! What a whirlwind mine was, and you’ll probably learn more about it from the photos I share here on coming Thursdays:>) My husband and I went to see two big concerts this August: ELO and Queen with Adam Lambert. Wow. We had seen both before, but the experience was incredible. Sold-out arenas with 15,000+ people singing along to hit songs. What a feeling to know that your words, your lyrics, resonate with so many people that they are still singing them 40+ years later. Amazing!

This image makes me think of several things:

  1. laser tag
  2. Star Wars (can’t you hear the light saber noise, even if you’re not a big Star Wars fan? I’m not, either)
  3. last spring when cops used searchlights for hours near my sister’s house after a robbery, car chase, crash, and getaway

And here’s my first draft. Might have my new laptop and be back to my regular format by next week:>)

The Song We Remember

Each word a sparkler,
perfect,
blazing,
bright…

All worries and fears
        disappear
into night

  1. poem by Jessica Bigi

    Playing Jacks

    counting
    riming
    laughing
    singing
    as handfuls
    of smiles
    scatter across
    the floor

  2. Your poem really captures that community experience you described! I’m in a fog of first week back and insomnia. This is what popped into my head just about immediately. It’s a bit odd, but I’m going with it! lol

    Unintended Light Show
    (aka Trying to Relax)

    Light beams arc,
    cross and cluster.
    Highlight motes.
    Oops!
    Where’s my duster?

(Again, I’m struggling to see other poems and access comments, but I’ll try!)

    1. I hate when I’m trying to relax and all those unwanted thoughts jump around my brain! I’m sorry you’re not seeing the other comment. WordPress is still working out some kind of bug I guess…

  3. What fun! I’m not a concert person—but I think I would enjoy those. I love these thursday challenges. It’s so much more fun with someone else’s photo!

    Laser jungle gym
    red bars
    blue and green–
    Climb higher
    highest
    I’m the climbingqueen!

    1. Yeah, it’s often easier to assign different interpretations to somebody else’s photos rather than our own:) I love this playful take!

    2. Laser jungle gym! How cool would that be!? And yay for seeing your comments! (I just managed to access them through the Twitter link, but hadn’t been able to in other ways.)

  4. Laura, your poem captures my thoughts.

    Strength to Stand

    One lone palm trunk
    survives
    amid colorful seascapes
    reduced
    to matchsticks

    Hope for Bahamians!

  5. High Energy

    Rainbow beacons
    syncopated with sound
    rock and roll rhythm
    galaxy bound!

  6. Hmm. I was able to leave a comment on my iPhone and could see other’s comments. Now I’m on my computer, and I can’t see any comments that have been made by anyone including myself. I’m posting this just to see if it will go, and to maybe help out in solving the issue. The website url in the sign in is always a different site of mine that autofills here.

    1. And you said the two devices use two different log-ons? Which is the one that’s working for you–the inoahcat one or the mainelywrite one. I see the same email address is associated with both. Are you using a different platform, like Google or Blogger or whatever, on one from the other?

  7. After the Ballgame

    A victory!
    And so we see
    explosions of light
    fill up the night.

    Whoopie!
