Happy spring! Yesterday was the first day of spring, and birds were cheeping outside my window in the early morning, despite the frost on the ground. I celebrated by reading Amy Ludwig VanDerwater’s new rhyming picture book, Every Day Birds (Orchard, 2016). Have you seen it? A single fact, poetically shared, and lovely cut paper art by Dylan Metrano showcases each bird. Don’t miss this beautiful rhyming nonfiction picture book. Its streamlined focus gives even a bird-know-nothing like me something to appreciate and watch for with every bird. You can also learn more about Amy and take part in a writing challenge from this post at Michelle Heidenrich Barnes’ Ditty of the Month Challenge.
Thanks for sharing the link, Laura. We’ve been having lots of fun writing poems about small things this month.
Happy birding! Happy spring!
Thanks, Michelle–I have been meaning to get over there and write a poem for it. I have a poem due to my Poetry Sisters first, however. Hard time keeping up with things lately!
Laura, we have a mind meld going! I just included Every Day Birds in my latest blog post. 🙂 So happy the birds are back & singing–and we have great books like this to help us celebrate!
Thank you so much, Laura! I appreciate you sharing EVERY DAY BIRDS – isn’t Dylan Metrano amazing? Mark just told me he purchased me the original chickadee from the book (something I was trying to do myself!) I thought of Randy too! Happy birds, friend! xo
Oh, that’s wonderful! How lovely of him and lucky for you!
