So, last week, I shared a lai, which the Poetry Princesses tackled for December. I liked it and wanted to try another, so here’s a #poemsketch with another lai.
I had one with a font I liked a little better, but it was a bit too hard to read. Readability always trumps beauty for me!

Beautiful! I really like the ooooooh sounds in this. And, the sketch is great. Do you sketch on paper and then photo or scan and then add your text? It looks super professional. Love it.
THanks, Linda:>) I do a watercolor background, which I may or may not hate :>/ Then I add a little silhouette. Then I take a pic on my cellphone. At some later point, I write a poem. Then I email myself the poem and open it on my phone. Then I use the WordSwag app to format my poem and put it on my sketch. Then I save the whole thing as an image on my phone, add it to my WordPress site, etc.
Perfect form for the subject. The poem had the swish and sway of the jellyfish.

Love this, Laura — both the poem itself as well as the formatting of font/image/etc. I’ve not heard of lais before, so I suppose that’s a form I need to tackle at some point!
Wow! I want to jump and and dance and sway with your jellyfish. I’m impressed with the art and words–together they are phenomenal!
I love that lai form and I plan to try it out soon, after all my Art of Losing poems.…perfect for the jellyfish!

“So liquid and slow” — that’s right. I saw a tank of baby jellyfish at the Monterey Aquarium once, stayed there a long time watching. This is lovely, Laura.

Thanks for the jellyfish today, Laura. I love jellies. We have an amazing jellyfish room at the Baltimore Aquarium — so calming to be in there, watching their “hypnotic show.”
The limit to words and lines seems very jellyfish. A good form for this simple but powerful creature. Wonderful poem to read aloud.

I do draw it right on the watercolor, Tabatha. Sometimes I place it just so to hide my most hated part of the watercolor :>)
You are the master of this form! Not only that, your graphic design and watercolor are superb as well!
