Happy National Poetry Month! Thanks for dropping by my Poem Starter Video party.
Today’s poem comes from?Revenge of the Lunch Ladies: The Hilarious Book of School Poetry?(Meadowbrook, 2007), by funny-poem guy Kenn?Nesbitt. As a mom who has taken the kids back-to-school shopping for many years, I could totally sympathize with the mom in this poem! Although my daughters’ lists didn’t include big-screen TVs or motor scooters, sometimes just the $100 calculators were enough to put me over the edge:>)
School Supplies
Backpack.
Fruit snack.
Water bottle, too.
Calculator.
French translator.
Pink eraser.
Glue.Notebooks.
Workbooks.
Poster paper.
Pens.
Dictionary.
Stationery.
Presents for my friends.
Lunchbox.
Tube socks.
Watercolors.
Tape.
Yellow pencils.
Plastic stencils?
one for every shape.Wristwatch.
Stopwatch.
Cell phone.
DVD.
New computer.
Motor scooter.
Giant-screen TV.
That’s my
list of
all I
need to buy.
I never knew a
shopping list?could
make my mother cry.–by Kenn Nesbitt, all rights reserved
And here is my Poem Starter Video:
[wpvideo p1I0OsSo]
THINGS I NEED
Oven roasters,
Roller coasters,
Peanut butter pie.
Calculators,
Incubators,
Stacks of ham on rye.
Magic horses,
Special forces,
Vats of cheese fondue.
Maserati’s,
Fresh biscotti’s,
Spiders dipped in blue.
Ocean liners,
Plush recliners,
Pig-shaped swimming pool.
These are all the
things I need before
I head to school.

Love, love, love the whimsy in this. What a fun school day that would be!
