Putrid Poetry: Day 21: Rabbits Recycle!

Dr. Louis Pasternak Skullstench: Stealth Poet
Poetry Assignment #21: A Poem Based on Research

Rabbits Recycle!

They sniff hay
They chew it
They poop it
and then

They sniff at
their poop and
start over
again

I made you queasy? Excellent! Here’s a rabbit poem for you! They really eat their poop. Don’t you have a pet rabbit?

I don’t have a pet rabbit, but I have always enjoyed observing these lovely creatures in my yard when I’m gardening.

Until now.

First, I had to sit through Miss Sweetmallow reading Goldie’s poem about bats.

Honduran Tent Bats: Facts
by Goldie Granmoti

We’re teeny tiny
white and fluffy
bright and puffy
clouds

We huddle on
these leafy spines
in cushy, straight-lined
crowds

We chew the edges
bit by bit; then
there we sit
until

Leaf collapses
down around us
no rain’s found us
still

Green umbrella
large leaf palm
keeps us calm
and dry

So we stay fluffy,
puffy, bright…
and fly just right–
good-bye!

How could she take something true and cool and gross like bats and make them so…so…cute? That’s just wrong.

Then, I had to watch talent share practice.
Savanna hula-hooped and told jokes for two minutes. It was interesting.
For two seconds.
What a day.

  1. My granddaughter is studying bats this year; she’ll love this! As for the rabbits! They also eat car wires! This “putrid poetry” is funny, Laura!

    1. Whew–at first I read that as “cat wires.” I thought, huh? Thanks, Linda!
