When Hope Is Not Easy #PoetryFriday

Happy Poetry Friday! (Wondering what Poetry Friday is? Click here.)

I’m sharing a poem I wrote shortly before the election four years ago. (It was a Poetry Princess prompt then.)

When Hope Is Not Easy

For the first time in four years, I feel hopeful about our country. While personal things have been emotional this past week (MORE surgery for my sister, plus our younger daughter Maddie headed back overseas after 8 months of being trapped with us for the pandemic), I feel hope on a larger scale. And it’s such a relief.

This weekend, I’ll be busy offline with our older daughter and am so excited for a little early holiday celebration! Because of that, I probably won’t be visiting many posts this week. It will be good to focus on positive things, though :>)

And for lots of wonderful poetry, don’t miss the Poetry Friday Roundup with poet-artist Robyn Hood Black at Life on the Deckle Edge.

  1. Such a crafted poem, Laura, where every poem is muscle and emotion on the page. (Beautifully presented, too!) Enjoy your time with family. Let the joy bubble and brew like a Bundaberg Ginger Beer! (They’re the best????)

  2. Laura, your poem is such a gift to me this week. Though I’ve been feeling hopeful about the country as the election results came in, I’ve been feeling a bit hopeless regarding the pandemic and our local case counts. Thank you for this beautiful poem at just the time I needed to hear it.

  3. Your glow golds & words, lift me up, Laura.

I acted out Margaret’s tree poem from HOP TO IT, based upon your photo prompt.

And I have a potpourri of Holocaust Education Week materials + it’s our wedding anniversary so I glowed about that.

Enjoy your pre-holiday daughter time (mixed feelings, I can comiserate, about travel for the other daughter) prayers for your sister’s surgery & all around beams of joy for you. xo

  4. Yes, Laura, many of us are feeling immense hope for America’s future. Your poem holds deep-seated feelings and the digital is so beautifully rendered. Enjoy concentrating on all the positives in your life and best wishes for your sister’s recovery.

  5. It’s great as ‚in your poem, that leaves fall and obey the natural law of gravity. I’m glad you’re feeling hopeful and wish the best to you and your family.

  6. I am hopeful that we might “pry the gates of hate apart”, Laura. Have a really wonderful weekend!

  7. Hope is a powerful emotion and your poem encapsulates it well, Laura. May it buoy all of us as we get through the coming 70 odd days until the orange stain is removed. Sending my best to you and all of yours. 🙂

  8. I do love that poem. Happy for Maddie — I know what it is to be afraid you’ll be stuck somewhere forever. Here’s to early holidays — and all the joy.

  9. I feel it too, Laura! I’m sorry about the more surgery and worry over a daughter going back out of our borders. But, I think I can weather storms better with confidence in my leadership. Thanks for the poem above. The formatting is so cool! I want to try that.

  10. Hooray for hope! I love the poem! Ruth, thereisnosuchthingasagodforsakentown.blogspot.com
