For #pb10for10, I shared my favorite rhyming nonfiction picture books, so be sure to check out that post if you like rhyme!
Here are three terrific nonfiction picture books I’ve read recently.
Feathers and Hair: What Animals Wear, by Jennifer Ward – Fun rhymes, great art, and nifty info. Score!
Whose Poop Is That? by Darrin Lunde – Fascinating facts for young naturalists, and a giggle for kids who find poop funny. :>)
Daylight Starlight Wildlife, by Wendell Minor – The sounds of the words, the alliteration, and the paintings…wow!
Happy nonfiction reading!
Oh boy, anything with the word “poop” in the title is going to fly off the shelves! Kudos to authors who know how to harness kids’ love of potty humour and use it to their advantage when creating nonfiction with real kid appeal!
I was surprised at how very, very much I loved the Wendell Minor book. Pitch perfect.
I agree–just lovely!
I thought Feathers and Hair was fun. I’m guessing the poop book will be a hit. The Minor book looks like an older title. Is that just the illustration style?
It’s just from 2015, so I think it’s his oil painterly (I think) style. That is not personally my favorite style, but he does it so well. Look at https://www.google.com/search?q=daylight+starlight+wildlife&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiSysSRlN3VAhUI7oMKHbxGDd0Q_AUICigB&biw=1366&bih=612 to see a few interior spreads. The lighting–so gorgeous! I especially love the nighttime scenes.
Oh, I really loved all three books! Glad to see some engaging science books out!
FEATHERS was great. It would be perfect for story time too!
