A IS FOR MUSK OX, by Erin Cabatingan, illustrated by Matthew Myers (Roaring Brook Press, 2012).
This book?is so funny (and I even learned a lot about musk oxen)!
“F is for musk ox — Because musk oxen have fur. And lots of it. Does this fur make me look fat?”
I love the way Musk Ox finds a way to be every single letter–except for M.
“Well, I felt kinda bad about what happened back at the beginning of the book, so I figured the apple could have my spot.”
This is a musk ox and a zebra with loads of personality. The relationship between them is a hoot–kids will love it. And how fun would it be in a classroom to have the kids make an alphabet book about themselves, figuring out why they should be each letter.
Even is you’ve already read and enjoyed (I did) Kelly Bingham’s attention-getting?Z IS FOR MOOSE, don’t miss A IS FOR MUSK OX.
Interesting that these two books both came out this year. I have Z IS FOR MOOSE, and it’s cute enough, but I think I like the concept of the musk ox book better. I love the challenge of finding something about the ox for each letter — and your suggestion for a student activity is so much fun! Hm…could be a fun poem exercise, too.
Ooh, I like that. An abecedarian about you!

This sounds great, Laura, and I thought immediately of Z Is For Moose, which you mentioned at the end, which I LOVED. I’ll have to check this out (read buy it for my granddaughter :))
Hehe. It’s kind of a shame when two such similar books come out at the same time–but both are really good!

Sounds a hoot!

Looks fabulous — I LOVED Z is for Moose!!
It is terrific. One of the funniest picture books I’ve read in the past 6 months, definitely.
