NCTE is happening in my hometown of Minneapolis later this month, and one of the many things I’m looking forward to is the Children’s Literature Lunch on Saturday. There, poet Marilyn Singer will be announced as the winner of the NCTE Excellence in Poetry for Children Award. Whee! I’m so happy for Marilyn, whose fabulous poetry is all over my bookshelves (and my blog–click here to read posts featuring Marilyn or her work). She comes up with the coolest ideas. Every time I hear about a new Marilyn poetry book, I think, “Aw, man, why didn’t I think of that?”
Anyway, there’s a wonderful article by Nancy Hadaway and Terry Young in Language Arts, so if you’d like to learn more about Marilyn and her process, you can read the article here. Once again, Marilyn’s ahead of me. In this article, she discusses a forthcoming project that resembles something I have in progress. Ack! At least I’m getting closer in the idea race ;>) There’s also a podcast of Nancy and Terry’s interview with Marilyn here–I haven’t even listened yet, but I’m looking forward to it. (Wish I could figure out how to get it on my phone, though!)
Enjoy all this Marilyn Singer goodness!
And…who else is going to NCTE? I’ll post more next week about what I’m doing. Hope to see lots of you there!
You are a true supporter of others! Bravo, Laura Purdie Salas!
Thanks, Linda–it takes one to know one!
🙂
I’ll be there! Can’t wait. I am doing 2 presentations, but I hope I’ll have time to pop in to one of yours. I already have my reservations for the Children’s Lit. Lunch.
Yay! Maybe we’ll be at the same table Saturday:>)
Laura, your unselfishness is truly inspirational. Dittos on Linda’s comment. Wishing you and all who attend a wonderful conference. In my book, you have arrived.
Aw, thanks, Martha–that’s very kind of you. NCTE is always a fantastic event. I’ve got a lot of stuff to do before then, but I’m looking forward to it being here!
Very happy for Marilyn, as well…and glad to hear you’re working on a new project, too!
Isn’t it great?
Thank you for sharing, Laura! I found the article to be inspiring. Congrats to Marilyn! I love her work and yours, too!
Thanks, Ann:>)
Marilyn is such a wonderful choice for this award. I’ll be at the luncheon, too! Looking forward to seeing you and Margaret there!
Yay! Maybe we’ll find each other in the crowd!
