OK, two things about my forthcoming rhyming nonfiction book from Millbrook Press, A Leaf Can Be…
1) Lerner has made it available for review through NetGalley, so if you’re a blogger who regularly reviews nonfiction books on your blog, and if you’re interested in reviewing A Leaf Can Be…, could you comment or e-mail me? I’ll pass along the info and see if I’m able to send the link to review the electronic copy? (Not nearly as nice as reviewing a real hard copy, but given publishers’ budgets, I totally understand.)
2) I got a box from Lerner last night, and guess what! They have taken a piece of art from Violeta Dabija’s stunning artwork for A Leaf Can Be… and made it their corporate holiday card!
Woohoo! They just added the text–love the O around the owl. So cute!
Hi Laura,
Your book looks beautiful! Wild About Nature blog would love to review it, but just to give you a heads-up, we are backed up to February right now. So, if it can wait until February, please have them forward a link.
Congratulations!
Kim
Thanks, Kim! Heidi Roemer got the link just a few days ago from me! Would be thrilled to be included at WAN. The book’s official pub date is in Feb anyway, though I’ve been told by Lerner it will be available Jan 1. Feb would be just great (if Heidi or whomever might review it likes the book:>). Thanks.

Gorgeous illustrations! I imagine the text is pretty good, too! 😉
Congratulations!
Thanks, Diane :>) I do really like this simple, fun text. It’s the kind of book I’d like to do more of… But, yes, the illustrations are the star. I lucked out by being paired with this fabulous illustrator.

Wow, you have so many books in the line up lately. This is beautiful. I went to the site & read some of your words too. I love the way you used them to describe, like ‘tree topper’ and ‘lake glider’. It would be a great book for those in primary studying trees (and leaves of course). Congratulations!
Thanks, Linda! And, sadly, this is my last book in the lineup. I’ve got no more trade books in the chute right now–just lots of rejections. Aw well, that’s the biz. I just keep on trying. I do think LEAF is my most physically beautiful book–so stunning. Hopefully BOOKSPEAK and LEAF will keep me chugging along for a while!

Way to go Laura! Methinks this could get you to NCTE in Vegas next year with the publisher paying for your lodging and travel!
Well, that would be lovely! But publishers don’t send many no-name authors to conferences. I’ve been treated very generously by Clarion, who has sent me to I think four events now (ALA, TLA, NCTE and maybe one more?) in support of my poetry books when I was invited to speak at those conferences by someone organizing a panel. Usually they just have two or three authors they support for each one, so I’ve been really grateful they’ve done so much for me. Especially since the other authors have been people like Linda Sue Park, Ralph Fletcher, and Karen Cushman! It’s hard to get on the roster of speakers at these things, and I’ve been lucky enough to be invited by Sylvia Vardell or Marilyn Singer for their poetry events. No such invitation related to NCTE, darn it. I’m hoping I can work something out, though. And I have no idea what Lerner’s sort of conference policy is. They’re really behind A LEAF CAN BE…, though, which cheers me enormously! We’ll see what happens.
