It’s World Teacher’s Day! I spent Friday with fantastic educators at the Minnesota ITEM conference (#mnitem), reminded all over again how thankful I am for our passionate educators here in Minnesota, the U.S., the entire world. My memories of my own teachers, from Mrs. Gracey reading us Where the Red Fern Grows to Mr. Rom making 9th-graders love Shakespeare, come back to me on a regular basis. When I run into my kids’ former teachers/educators (Gary Bowman, Tim Klein, Kim Haugo, Michelle Vance, Jenna Diem and oh-so-many more who made my kids’ lives better in tons of ways, both content-related and not) I’m grateful for my public school system. And when I connect with schools and students, I feel the immense power/impact of teachers, every single time. I’m a former 8th-grade English teacher and sister of a loonnnnng-time elementary teacher, and I know what a challenging career it is. Teachers of all kinds, THANK YOU for everything you do!
Laura, nice shout out for teachers! Congratulations on getting two poems published in the new National Geographic Book of Nature Poetry. What an honor! Also, happy to hear that you are a presenter at your area’s SCBWI Conference. You accomplish so much! Keep writing!
Thanks, Linda!
As a former teacher I too appreciate the “shout out” to the many teachers who dedicate their liives to making the world a better place.
