A while ago, I posted about how I had finally realized why I don’t enjoy a lot of contemporary YA novels. Not that I don’t like any of them, but a lot of them do annoy me. In the comments, Becky Levine recommended My Most Excellent Year to me, a novel she had read and really enjoyed, so I put it on reserve at the library.
I finished it 5 minutes ago, and wow! I loved it. In some ways, it reminded me of Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie, by Jordan Sonnenblick. Not in plot at all, but in heart…in the feeling it left me with. And, in looking at Amazon to find the cover image, I find that author Steve Kluger has more novels for me to read, too. Yay! Thanks, Becky. It was wonderful to be reading a YA novel I couldn’t put down, instead of one I felt like I was trudging through. |
