I got an email a couple of weeks ago from poet/blogger Tabatha Yeatts. She asked me for my snail mail address because she had some tea to send me. Huh? I love tea. But I don’t know Tabatha that well and thought maybe she had meant to email Laura Shovan or another Laura in her address book.
No. It turns out that when Tabatha was doing her project of drawing a Commenter’s name at random to receive a little gift each month (I can’t find the link that explains this–can anyone help?), she ALSO drew two additional names to send a little something to sometime in 2015. And I was one of those two names!
So I sent her my address, and a week later I had a box filled with teas. We’re not talking 6 bags of Tetley here. It was chock-full of all sorts of cool teas, many of which I’ve never tried! So far, my favorite is the Tazo Wild Sweet Orange (for the yum flavor) and the Traditional Medicinals Cup of Calm (because, really, when couldn’t I use a cup of calm?).
Like I said, I don’t know Tabatha all that well. She posts a lot of beautiful grown-up poems and does these amazing, thoughtful posts about art and poetry. Why am I not at Tabatha’s blog more? When I DO find the time to visit, I think, “I need to come here more often.”
I was just telling a writer new to poetry that she needs to get involved with the kidlitosphere poetry world. It’s hard to find a nicer group of writers, and Tabatha is just one great example of that.
Thank you, Tabatha! I’m having a blast trying a new flavor every day:>)
Relax and rejuvenate while you sip your tea.

What a sweet gift! And I agree, the kidlitosphere is the greatest community!

Nice of Tabatha to do that. Congratulations on your winnings! (or is that Twinings?) Tazo and Stash both have some great flavors, so enjoy!
Hehehe. That orange tea is delicious! Need to order myself some. Tastes a little like hot Tang, which will make most people go, “Ugh,” but it’s great. Stronger than other orange teas I’ve tried.

I always tell Tabatha that when I visit, I learn. What a nice surprise, Laura. The teas look wonderful.
Yes!

Even the alliteration “tea from Tabatha” sounds calming and yummy. My mailbox friends and internet friends, with whom certain circumstances brought about the connections, are endearing. Though we’ve never met in person, we value our friendships. We sign off as snail mail and E-mail friend. Enjoy your week.
Thanks, Martha–I agree!

How nice! That Tabatha is something else, isn’t she?
She is!

Enjoy your generous gift–and thanks for giving us all the reminder of how lucky we are to be part of this wonderful writing community.

Did you mention that Tabatha is the wonderful person who sets up our poetry swaps at Christmas and over the summer? She is just amazing.
And you mentioned our great kid lit community. I was thinking just this morning, I wonder how our new young peoples poet laureate Jacquline Woodson will make use of this valuable resource during her term? Each poet laureate usually has a project he/she tries to accomplish in the two years of their term. I wonder what Jacqueline will do. Any ideas?
