Mostly, I’m panicking at the fact that it’s Dec. 1. December? What the…? How did it get to be December?
But I’m also happy to turn that calendar page because it’s the end of NaNoWriMo. Whew!
I did NOT reach the overall goal of 50,000 words. I just couldn’t make the time, between nonfiction writing I had under contract (which didn’t count toward the 50,000) and our very fantastic trip to Georgia for an entire week.
But I’m still happy I participated. My final word count on new fiction was 28,058 words. Rather than work on one long novel (not my thing), I decided to work on chapter books, a form I’ve wanted to try for years but have had no success with. So in November, I wrote three chapter books. That’s right, three! Booyah.
Of course, they’re all pretty sucky first drafts. But still…three! I’m so excited. And they each have an appropriate structure, word count, and (I think) plot.
My December is stuffed to the gills with book deadlines and school visit presentations to do, but come January, I’ll be choosing one of these drafts to target for revision! Given the picture book/poetry market right now, I’m very excited about that!
Congrats to all you NaNoWriMo-ers who reached whatever goal you set for the month!
