One more day of wordplay poems here! Monday, I shared the lesson plan. Yesterday, I shared a gallery of poems. And today, here’s a gallery of the rest of the poems! Thank you, students!
Teachers, please note: Most of these are their notebook version, not copied over neatly yet. That’s because these students spent time standing in line waiting to share their work with the whole classroom full of strangers. So brave. Hope you will find they’re worth the extra time to read/decipher:>)

Oh my! The hawk may have gourmet dinners of snake souffle and mouse mousse, but I could definitely eat this poetry for at least a few more meals! The laugh of the stalactite, the vanilla taste of shadow, the ooey gooey frosted cupcake… Zzzzzzzippp! of a backback, and then they’re gone. I hope these students will carry the experience with them? they are all brilliant poets-in-training. Thanks for sharing them all, Laura! It’s been fun for me to share them on my blog and on Facebook as well.
You picked out some of my favorite phrases, Michelle:>) Thanks for sharing them further, too, Michelle. They were proud to share their words and imagination, and I know they would be thrilled that you spread them beyond my blog. Thanks again to you and Nikki Grimes for the initial inspiration!

Laura, I’m a little late with this response. Such inspiration from poets-to-be. I was inspired not only by their words but the use of colored paper. What a beautiful array and I’m sure their color choice speaks to their personality in some way. I immediately thought of the little bakery near my daughter’s home, “Sugar Kneads” and the case filled with cupcakes iced in those same colors.
Thanks, Martha! I always bring papers for them to write on. Sometimes they’re scrapbook papers, sometimes colored index cards or Post-It notes, sometimes a combination of those or other items. I like to give them something besides just notebook paper to write on.
that is a really neat idea and spurs creativity. Thanks for the tip!
