Mirror [15 words or less]

Photo: Laura Salas

Wake up your poetry brains with 15 Words or Less (guidelines here)!

15WOLs

I took this pic downtown (Minneapolis) because I liked the way the mirrors made it look like there were bowls holding these decorative balls, when there were really only half-bowls. Here are?3 things this photo makes me think of:

1)?the Photobooth app that my daughter and niece keep playing with to distort?their faces
2)?my 26th wedding anniversary, which is TODAY!
3) the balls could represent the seasons–the white ones could be snowballs/winter, the green ones spring, and the wooden ones autumn. Just missing summer.

And here’s my first draft.

We Are Not Alike…

but?we make something whole
when we face each other
and hold out our hands?

I’m out of town and won’t be able to reply today, but I LOVE how you guys have been responding to each other! And I did read and comment on last week’s poems, but not until Sunday. Just in case you were wondering about a response but didn’t see one:>)

Now it’s your turn! Have fun? and stick to? 15 WORDS OR LESS!??(Title doesn’t count toward word count:>)?

    Mirror, mirror, on the wall,
I don’t look like that at all!

  7. Happy Anniversary Laura! Hope hubby is with you. Nice “healthy” picture.

    Florets

      1. Thanks Donna. Your poem did not come through legibly for me. It may be on my end. I think I got the gist — a mate making one whole?

      2. Donna, just made one more click and I “got it.” Love that image. Fantastic and it speaks volumes.

  9. Changed my mind. Here’s a revision:

    Mirror Me

I stare at the mirror me,
    wondering who she sees
    when she looks at me.

    ?Kate Coombs

    1. Kate, funny how the moment you click submit, you have an “aw shucks” moment.

A more literal translation for my poem is:

      Florets

      Green and white
      crisp and cold
      Broc and Cauli
      in a salad bowl.

      1. I do like that better! The first one works, but the second one takes a step forward. Funny about that “Oh, just hit Send” moment. 🙂

    2. This somehow puts me in the mindset of my eight-year old self–too old to have an imaginary friend, but always imagining there was a me in another universe and wondering if she wondered about me.

  11. Happy anniversary! Here’s mine — kind of related to your day, I guess! (Experimenting to see if your comments take html tags. If it doesn’t then I’ll repost and you will have to imagine it centered!) I’ve put the graphic version on my page (graphic as in image!).

  13. Happy anniversary Laura–hope you have a warm celebration!

    zombie fruit bowl
    brains, broccoli, and bananas–
    going paleo

(This was not the direction I intended to go, but I kept seeing brains in that bowl!)

    1. Have a friend who is paleo and the zombies are very much alive in my family. I like the brains interpretation.

  15. When I looked at the picture my eyes kept coming back to that beautiful head of broccoli.
So all I could think of was this:

    Vegetables

    Five they say
    every day
    improves our health
    and what we weigh,
    keeps viruses away.

  17. Interesting how Laura’s bowl of decorative balls is another’s bowl of broccoli. Rhyming makes vegetables much more fun.

  23. Such grotesque decoration
    Like never before
    Thought it was unique
    Then I find some more

    1. (PS Sorry probably took someone a long time to put up there. Luckily I am on the other side of the world. It was the first thing that came into my head. Not a lover of decoration. Plain as day me. )
