Happy Poetry Friday! (Wondering what Poetry Friday is? Click here.)
Last week, I shared about the awesome Risking Writing session at NCTE. Today, I thought I’d share my final poem in a more legible way. But if you’d like to hear about the session and see my writing process, click here. Believe it or not, this poem was inspired by a photo of mixed produce!
And for lots of wonderful poetry, don’t miss the Poetry Friday Roundup with Tabatha at The Opposite of Indifference.

Fun to imagine “taming life” with the camera. I’ll remember that image, Laura. Merry Christmas with all the capturing of life’s sweetness.
Placing life in a filtered cage is such a beautiful thought. You are saving moments for posterity and creating the poetry to accompany them in imagepoems. I’m so glad to call you a presenter partner of mine. Enjoy your holidays, Laura.
Thank you, Carol. We both work to do that, don’t we! Happy holidays to you, too:>)
This poem packs a punch, Laura! I often take pictures as visual notes to myself, but never thought of them as a “filtered cage.” Well-done!
Thanks, Catherine–I was trying to say that photos pale in comparison to real life, but I’m not sure that came through at all. (And I still need to take pics all the time to capture memories or remind myself of something important!)
What a journey this poem takes, to Persia via purring to the tiger in us all. From produce to our inner tigers. Love it.
Thank you, Brenda!
Oh! I love knowing that THIS is the poem you wrote in our session! Instead of using the image in the photo, you got behind the entire process of photography. Nice!!
Thanks, Mary Lee. I was actually really happy with this poem, and it’s even more satisfying that it came out of your and Heidi’s session!
Great topic, Laura! One funny off-shoot is how sometimes photos look completely different than what was going on (when people stop arguing just long enough for a photo, for instance). Not just a purring descendant, but a different animal altogether 🙂
Happy Holidays!
“Growling ancestral tiger” sounds so majestic! Love it. 🙂 Thanks for sharing, dear Laura.
