I’m writing this post on Election Day as I steadfastly try to calm my nerves. The seeming seclusion of the canal dinner cruise Randy and I took in Dublin feels like a perfect escape right now.
This was one of our favorite things on our trip–totally unplanned. We’ve been watching a British show called Great Canal Journeys–love it! It was lovely to discover a canal right outside our little rented apartment! We went walking along the tow path (when working barges plied the canals, they were towed by a horse on the tow path), and it was like entering a secret garden. And then we found a boat offering dinner cruises and signed up for Saturday night. Here are some photos of the canal during the day as well as pics from our cruise. A fancy shmancy floating restaurant called La Peniche runs dinner cruises and events. It was SO delicious and so wonderful! Sigh. It puts me in a reverie, just thinking about it…Here are some photos, followed by a set of pebble poems, as inspired by Mary Lee Hahn here.

What a lovely post, Laura. I love hearing about your trip. Your words “why are walls and leaves more romantic through round windows?” is a great observation and a wonderful example of how poets might look at the world differently.

Here’s one to put on your bucket list — hubby and I stayed on a narrow boat B&B on the Thames years ago when we were in England. That’s a whole ‘nother level of magic!
