I can’t believe it’s time to think about Thanksgiving! This will be the first time in more than 10 years, I think, that both our daughters will be here for Thanksgiving. Maddie’s lived overseas all that time, and Annabelle was out of state some of those years too. Lots to be thankful for!
I’m also thankful to the California Reading Association for choosing Finding Family as a Eureka! Gold Medal winner. This was such lovely news to get on a Monday :>D I’ll share the whole list of honored books here once it’s available online.
It’s always comforting to me to know that nature and animals are following their normal routines. My book Snack, Snooze, Skedaddle shows animals’ fall routines.
Wouldn’t it be cool to do a Venn diagram comparing and contrasting what your students are grateful for with what animals are grateful for? Maybe a moose is grateful for its thicker coat. And a fox is grateful for mice. What are your students thankful for? I bet you’ll find some fun overlaps! (Here’s my example.)

Congratulations!!
Laura, exciting news professionally and personally! Congratulations on your Eureka Gold Award! That’s wonderful that you will have both of your girls home for Thanksgiving! We’re happy we will have our oldest daughter home for Christmas this year! Her and her boyfriend moved to CO in 2021. We are fortunate that our youngest daughter lives a 4 1/2 hour drive away. Hey, I spent a lot of time looking at your new website; it’s fantastic! I love it! Great organization! It’s bright, easy to navigate, and loaded with so much. I remember your pic with the amazing eagle on FB. The photo of you asleep in the chair with a book is precious. I think personal photos invite readers in. I will be spending more time reading your website. Thank you for mentioning it and thank you for the info for writers. 🙂
Thanks for this idea! I am planning a Grati-ku tree for my classroom door. My students this year think poetry is the best thing ever. They cheer when I tell them we are doing poetry, a gift for this teacher!
