Did you know the first Sunday in June is National Cancer Survivors Day? I didn’t, either. But it is. Like just about everyone, my life has been touched by cancer, and an editor friend who is smart and wonderful and compassionate is going through treatment right now. I’m re-sharing this poem from quite a few years ago. I wrote it when a niece in her 20s was going through breast cancer treatment—a niece who today is a healthy mom of a young baby! I have many friends and family members who are cancer survivors–hello, those of you who are in the kidlit and/or Poetry Friday! I am SO very glad you are here. And when I go to schools for author visits, I almost always see at least one kid with a bald head. This poem is for them, too!
I hope you’ll share this poem on June 6 with someone you know who is bravely dealing with cancer in their life.
[My Classroom Connections posts share a way to connect one of my books or poems to a classroom topic–often something timely that you might be covering in the next month or so. Please share this post if you have educator friends who might be interested–thanks!]

I love it Laura! I found out yesterday about someone who is fighting this battle and I am sharing your poem with them today. Love you! Thank you!

Thank you so much, Melissa. I wish nobody needed this poem, but I honor everyone dealing with cancer…
