Today, I am revising some poems that are part of a novel in verse. I first started this project 16 years ago as a picture book cycle of poems (a la Ralph Fletcher’s Moving Day). (Freewriting about the project started even 2 years before that!) It swelled to 100 poems with one editor’s input and then to 200 poems with another’s. I am now collaborating on it with the person who inspired the poems to begin with. I don’t know if this will ever get published. I do know that it’s an important project–to me and the person who inspired it. And it reminds me that many books I read and love have had long lives before I ever meet them!

Best to you in the writing, Laura. It must be nice to return to something like an old friend.
Wow, sounds like an intriguing project. Best wishes with it!
Special projects like this one of yours help to make us the artists/writers we can be. Keep at it, even if it moves from front to back burners as your life moves along. The long term projects are often the most important things we do. Keep up the fine work you do.
Thanks, Nancy, for the encouragement:>)
As you know, Laura. I’m a huge fan of novels in verse. I look forward to reading yours someday!
And right back at you!
Sounds like a true labor of love!
