I’m sneaking my Poetry Month Magnipoem into my Classroom Connections post.
Oh! This is one of my favorites I’ve written so far this month. What a relief, especially as I haven’t loved my last two. Here’s a bit of my process.
And now…good news!
Ya know, sometimes I look at one of my just-published books and think, “This is the one. It’s so beautiful. This is the one that’s going to reach a million readers.” And then…it doesn’t quite reach those grandiose heights! So I am absolutely thrilled that Zap! Clap! Boom! has been named a Blueberry Honor Award book! These awards celebrate children’s books that inspire kids to love nature and care for our planet.
Zap! is splashing around with some other gorgeous books. You can check out the list here, and you can find Zap! materials here. I hope you’ll love some of the titles and materials for your classroom!
Thank you to the Blueberry Committee and the Evanston Public Library!
[My Classroom Connections posts share a way to connect one of my books or poems to a classroom topic–often something timely that you might be covering in the next month or so. Please share this post if you have educator friends who might be interested–thanks!]

Laura, I saved a dried hydrangea blossom and it’s in a vase in my bathroom. It’s been there for years now. Your poem is perfect for it. Papery notes!
Laura, I also save hyrangea to dry and use as a decoration. Your magnipoem is a splendid one for springtime. I enjoyed reading your process-butterfly wings was a favorite in picture one. The replacement of love notes with papery notes was a good choice.
Congrats for the Blueberry… inspiring kids to love nature is a good reason for getting an award!
I like your hydrangea poem. My grandmother had them in her yard when I was young. My cousin and I played around them and made up stories… wish I remembered them now!
