Let’s talk about fall—my favorite season! It’s the perfect time to break out some knitted goodies. I’ve been working on this circular vest thingamabob for so many months! Most of the time I haven’t been actually knitting…just trying to figure out the abysmal can’t-really-be-called-a-pattern! I think it’s destined for the garbage, so I’m afraid to take it off the needles :>(
Anyway, I can’t believe that If You Want to Knit Some Mittens is turning 3! It was born during lockdown, so it mostly went unnoticed. But it’s a funny picture book about the process of getting from sheep to mittens. It’s terrific for STEM discussions, along with chats about friendship and the value of making things by hand. And the value of patience! Click for lots more downloadable resources, including coloring sheets, ELA sheets, and a unit on measurements. Here’s just one of the cute downloadables that illustrator Angela Matteson created! Click on it to get the downloadable version, and there are many more downloadables–including some ELA activities–on the book page.
Speaking of birthdays, my oldest book in print, BookSpeak!, will turn 13 on the 21st of October! (How is that possible!?) Many picture books don’t stay in print very long these days. I’m grateful for every year that my books stay available!
[My Classroom Connections posts share a way to connect one of my books or poems to a classroom topic–often something timely that you might be covering in the next month or so. Please share this post if you have educator friends who might be interested–thanks!]

Bookspeak! was my first book of yours! Glad children can continue to read it. Your circular vest may not turn out as expected but it certainly is a beautiful color.
Aw, thank you, Rose! Come back on Poetry Friday for a knitting fail update ;>)
