Teachers, here’s a fun writing activity you can do with your students, and it’s perfect for Valentine’s Day! These snappy poems are short enough to fit on a handmade card!
Just pick a person to make your valentine for.
my sister Patty
Brainstorm lists of specific things about your person.
things that person loves:
- funny movies
- dark chocolate
- cross-stitching
- games
- therapy dogs
- wolves
words that describe them:
- curly hair
- short
- freckles
places they like:
- castles
- beach
things about them that I’m grateful for:
- makes handmade gifts
- is the family peacekeeper
Then brainstorm a few equations.
- laughter + dark chocolate = Patty
- sand castles + freckles = Patty
- funny movies + handmade gifts – arguments = Patty
- seashells + wolves + Patty = happiness
- dark chocolate + Patty = happiness
Pick your favorite and add it to your card for a personal touch.
For more equation poem activities, check out my webpage for Snowman-Cold=Puddle, which is going to come out in a year or two in paperback! I’m thrilled about that! If you make these Valentine’s cards or any other equation poems with your students, I’d love it if you’d tag me: @LauraPSalas — thanks!
