I had a lovely message a few weeks ago about my poem “Good-Bye, Hello!” It’s a back-to-school poem that appeared in Highlights magazine last year, and it is the runner-up for SCBWI’s 2015 Magazine Merit award. Yay!
And, I’m happy to say that Michelle Heidenrich Barnes of Today’s Little Ditty was the winner for her poem, “George Nissen, Boy Inventor,” which you can read here. Congratulations, Michelle!

Yay, Laura. I loved the poem, its reading, and illustrations. The artist captured the enthusiasm for transition from home to school. Fun! Congratulations. May you win many more honors and awards.

Oh! Hello, Friend! I didn’t realize the SCBWI announcement went live. Yippee! I love that we’re hanging out on the winner board together, Laura. 🙂 “Good-bye, Hello” is such a fun, happy poem to welcome the school year? Highlights did a great job with it. Thanks for linking to George Nissen, too!

Aww, yay. That poem is so joyous, and so described how I felt EVERY SINGLE YEAR about school — “thank the LORD summer is over!!!”
Yes, I was a weird kid, but summer was fine for about a …week. And then I missed my teachers, my friends, and access to allllll the books.
I was the same way, Tanita! Could not WAIT for school to start:>)
