Wake up your poetry brains with 15 Words or Less (guidelines are here)!
Here’s one more pic from St. Louis on my ILA trip. This, of course, is the Arch! I had fun zipping to the top of it. Nice to see at least one historic/touristy thing in each city I visit for conferences:>) This picture makes me think of: 1) Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator (haven’t read this book since I was a kid) 2) skateboarding–and my historic fall on Christmas Day when I was about 11 and got a skateboard 3) time travel And here’s my first draft. Ah, memories… It’s your turn! Have fun and stick to 15 WORDS OR LESS! (Title doesn’t count toward word count:>) Note: I am trying to dig myself out of the hole made by spending lots of time with Maddie this past month before she headed off to Scotland for 2–3 years. She left Sunday and is off on a grand adventure to make the world a better place! Meanwhile, my house and writing schedule are in a worse place due to my neglect. So I’m on an official SMacation–pretty much no social media for me. I hope you’ll all enjoy writing poems today, but I’ll be sitting this one out and digging into the new website that I’m working on. And behind on.

Laura, enjoy your SMacation, and I’m happy to hear you had special time with Maddie. The empty nest syndrome is another hurdle in life’s time passages and both sad and happy emotions fight for a place in your heart. Your verse for today reminds me of growing up on “ancient” roller skates with a metal key to tighten them onto my shoes and finding the best hill on which exhibit my skills, or lack thereof!
Kite Strings, Heart Strings

Jessica, I really like the image of shoe laces and the flashback to a first lesson for a child, especially the hugs.
Arch captures
a piece of sky
that flutters
blue wings,
white feathers.

Gum on the Sidewalk
I love gum
But not when there’s some
That sticks to my shoe
Like glue
I love that this remanded you of gum
