Oh, gosh–I can’t believe I’ve managed to post a skinny poem every day so far! Just two more days. Many of these poems have been extremely sketch‑y, written in 5 minutes or less. More about the practice than the results. This Friday, for Poetry Friday, I hope to share a roundup of the whole month’s worth, and perhaps a few reflections if I can manage the time!
Meanwhile, last week I had a lovely author visit to Highland Elementary School in Apple Valley, MN. What a fabulous morning. 150–200 kids each session, their educators, fabulous media specialist Karen Benson, and me. Such a welcoming school! Here’s me with Karen and a couple of photos she sent me.

After the K‑1 session, two girls came up to tell me nice things and offer me lovely drawings/notes they had made on sticky notes. That filled up my heart! It also inspired this skinny poem. The notes they gave me weren’t actually sticky from jam or anything. (Though I HAVE gotten notes with food on them :>) The evidence of their enthusiasm–in the smiles, the erasures on the notes, the hearts and happy faces–such a gift!

Lovely Laura, your poem, post and the warmth and energy from your school visit, must be so rewarding for you!
BTW I think I know the general area you were in, for my sister lives in Burnsville, MN…
