Happy Poetry Friday! (Wondering what Poetry Friday is? Click here.)
Howdy, friends. This week, I’m sharing an old poem, because it recently found a new little audience. I wrote this spoof in 2009, inspired by Tricia Stohr-Hunt. (More details back here.)
Now this poem is included in a new anthology created by Jayne Jaudon Ferrer. It’s called Poems to Lift You Up & Make You Smile. It features 100 poems out of the more than 4000 poems Jayne shared on YourDailyPoem.com, which I loved! It’s being published by Parson’s Porch, a Tennessee non–profit publisher that funds a food ministry program. All the poets are unpaid, donating their work for this great cause. Jayne received no advance, and this was a labor of love for her. I can’t wait to get my copy–I suspect I’ll recognize another Poetry Friday name or two! Thanks, Jayne, for your poetry passion!
If you’re looking for some poems to, well, lift you up and make you smile, order from Parson’s Porch (more $ for the food ministry) or Amazon (still supports the food ministry, just not as much).
And for more joyful poetry, don’t miss the Poetry Friday Roundup with the fabulous Christie Wyman!

Oh, what fun, Laura! I found myself singing along and delighting in your clever rhymes. I’m so glad this poem has found a new audience. It’s a perfect fit for the anthology title. Congratulations!
Laura, I absolutely love this poem. It is funny and jammed-packed with interesting Bs that you crafted into a song-like poem. Congratulations on its inclusive in an anthology.
Dear Laura, now the Sound of Music is playing in my mind-theater. Thank you! Congratulations on this poem finding such a joyful home. xo
Your poem is an inspiration, Laura! It feels as if I could put in my own ‘favorite things’ & go singing through the day no feeling so sad! Thanks for the shout out to the anthology. I get Jayne’s feed but she hasn’t shared it there.
Laura: I love this, and I love writing to songs also. This one is a big lift, but you rose to the challenge! I especially love bathing suit fitting with little resistance. Hahaha. YESSS. Thanks for the fun and the laughter…
Congratulations, Laura. What a very fun poem! I sang along throughout the whole thing. Beautiful and does lift up and make me smile! I’ll look forward to reading the 100 poems and supporting a good cause.
So glad your poem is going to be available to a new audience! I love the bacon line, and yes, there are so many things to remember when a writer has a bad day.
I just got my copy yesterday! I was excited to see your poem!!
(Not sure if my first comment stuck, so I’ll try again!) I just got my copy yesterday and I was excited to find your poem. I can’t read it without singing it — so fun!
JUST brought in my copy–excited to see your name in there. Can’t wait to read your poem and the whole thing :>)

What a fun poem and generous thing to do! Thanks for sharing it’s renewed life!
Once long ago in a writing camp, we did a favorite things activity and poem writing. I’d love to use this as a mentor text this year with my students. So happy it found a good home for a wonderful cause.
I remember having my students take the tune and rhythm of the Gilligan’s Island theme song and write a spoof or something. They had so much fun with that!
What a fun poem! (I couldn’t help but sing it in my mind as I read it 🙂 and what a wonderful anthology for it to be a part of.
Ha — Too fun, Laura, and glad this B‑dazzling poem gets to live on in this new anthology! And what a wonderful labor of love all around.
(Hmmm… Can’t tell if my comment made it through? Your blog tells me I sent it twice but I don’t see. Well, thanks so much for sharing this oh-so-fun poem, and what a wonderful project!)
