Hello, and welcome! This is 15 Words or Less Poems, a low-pressure way to wake up your poetry brain (guidelines here), and I’m very glad you’re here.
It’s another mall photo. Seriously, you know I’m not getting out enough when several weeks of pictures in a row are coming from mall-walking before Weight Watchers one day. Oi.
This image makes me think of several things:
- Octopus’s Garden by the Beatles
- the aquarium in Atlanta
- horseback riding as a kid
And here’s my first draft. I realized I should have changed the title. I was trying to work in both a horse race (hence the photo finish) and the fact that they were grazing on plankton, which survive via photosynthesis. But, too much for 15 words. Ha! Oh, well. Just a first draft.
It’s your turn! Have fun and stick to 15 WORDS OR LESS! (Title doesn’t count toward word count.)
My husband is having shoulder surgery today, so I will be reading your poems while I’m in the waiting room. Don’t know whether I’ll be able to comment or not, but I look forward to the distraction!

Praying the surgery goes well.
Underwater Playground
Splish, splash-
Horsing around.
Dip, dash-
Clowning around.
What goes on beneath
would surely astound.
I love the playful energy in this, Cindyb! I can see these creatures having fun 🙂
Best to your husband Laura. Wishing for a quick recovery. I liked your title, catchy. The vivid colors are gorgeous, and the Atlanta Aquarium is beyond belief!

I love your first line! I relaxed as I read it!
Really imaginative way to remind us there are non-meat options, Martha! Thank you!
Sending lots of positive, healing energy to your husband, Laura! I love how you capture the gracefulness of the seahorse.

Yes, “corrugated” is an amazing word choice! And the whole thing flows nicely, like water.
This is wonderful Suzanne. I especially love the corrugated body, perfect description.
Thank you Cindy.
Seahorses saunter,
curling their tails,
seahorses stand tall,
like a small boat’s sails.

Going for the literal here.
Swimming behind glass
seahorse, clownfish, anemone–

And I hope the surgery and recovery go well!
fun poem, Laura. Here’s mine:
Clown Fish
By Dianne Moritz
Clown fish has this one wish.…
That it’s no dish for bigger fish!
Fun is right Dianne; almost a tongue twister.
thanks, Martha!
I can see it Buffy. Clever take!
Kate, I love curling tails and small boat sails!
Fun image Laura, it reminds me of “Finding Nemo” also. But I decided to follow the Clown fish…
SAVORING SYMBIOSIS
Clown fish swish
In ocean bottoms
symbiotically sweeping clean
Anemones’ leftovers.
