Hello, and welcome! This is 15 Words or Less Poems, a low-pressure way to wake up your poetry brain (guidelines here), and I’m very glad you’re here.
I’m still off the grid, so once again, I will not be able to comment. I’m hoping you guys will take it and run with it! I hope to be back online next week:>)
This photo was taken by my overseas daughter when a cow walked through a field where she and some friends were picknicking.
This image makes me think of several things:
- the saying, “like a bull in a china shop”
- I wonder if the inventor of the fly swatter got the idea from cows’ and/or horses’ tails
- cows have a picnic every day!
And here’s my first draft.
It’s your turn! Have fun and stick to 15 WORDS OR LESS! (Title doesn’t count toward word count.)

I like the rhythm and the rhyme!
Me, too. Could be a song.
I like this.…the movement and the rhyme.
Thought for the day Amelia. Words of wisdom.
Very cute rhyme. I like the idea that the grass is greener where we ARE. Nice!
I love you ending
CONTENTED COW CONFESSION
My name is Rosebud.
I’m where I belong,
chewing my cud
and mooving along.
Rosebud is a cute name for this cow. We both used the word mooving. Word play is fun!
Cindy, Rosebud is it. The only name for a cow I could think of is Elsie and it just didn’t work!!!!
I love the name Rosebud. Cute rhyme.
I love the cow knows where it belongs
Across the street from one of my schools is a cow pasture. I want to be romantic about it, take pictures, enjoy the serene scene, but the stench…

–Margaret Simon
Oh, yes, neither one of us could resist the opportunity to moove! I like the rhyme and the alliteration!
I grew up in cow country… and never was mollified by the “fresh country air” comments from the farmers. But, I am glad for all the milk I get to drink & use.
Mowing the lawn is perfect as an ending.
Good one Margaret. Bottom line, milk and ice cream!
love your title and the way your words sound all the moo’s
What a fun photo! It definitely brings out the play. Woot! Love that word, “snick”. And, yes.….slick trick slapping flies like that.
I’m feeling silly today:
West waltzing cows
waltz wantonly
towardsunset,
twilight
and the wine
of dew laden
wildflowers.
I wouldn’t call your poem silly Linda. Rather romantic poetry, relaxation, all’s right with the world.
I love waltzing cows and all the w words
That’s one cool cow. Laura I love your fly swatter tail.

Jean, perfect play on words, expecially “moosic.” All of the “moos” have been fun.

Love the connection with the fly swatter Laura. Like Linda, I too feel silly with this fun pic.

The Country Far
Dad careless
About cruelly fries
Tripped scoop ice-cream
Dad’s favorite bluebells
With red ribbons
Your poem makes me want to go to a fair and eat curly fries and ice cream. Love the details.
I am extremely short on time today, but want to say I have enjoyed all the poems and comments including Laura’s tail/tale. Here’s mine:
On dainty legs
and tiny hooves
my curvy body
really moves.
Ha–your final line made me laugh!
love how your words almost draw a pitcher as you read them
Rivers of muscles
beneath cow’s hide
coursing to bones
running each stride
Rivers of muscles
beneath cow’s hide I love this
Love your opening. I usually think of cows as soft, but your poem gives them strength. Nice.
Laura, love your poem! Hope you are taking in some lovely R & R. I read your post on your activities for the last month and … Wow!
COWS IN PARADISE
