Happy Poetry Friday! (Wondering what Poetry Friday is? Click here.)
I’m heading out to NCTE this morning in Boston! Hope I might get to see a few of you there!
I am always so pleased to have poetry in Cricket or any of the Carus literary publications. I just got author copies of the July/August issue with one of my poems, “Dragon Dreams.”
Isn’t this medieval looking dragon art by Sara Tyson cool? I love it!
Here’s the poem:
Dragon Dreams
Flesh-made mountain: dragon sleeps,
sending dreams of fire and death.
Steaming vapor streams and creeps—
misty wreath of dragon breath.Hemlock ribs cage granite heart:
beat by beat, bright valley quakes.
He’ll wage a war to break apart
creation. Hush! The dragon wakes!–Laura Purdie Salas, from Cricket Magazine
For more poetry fun, don’t miss the Poetry Friday Roundup. I’m not sure as I post this who is hosting this week, but you can always find out by visiting Mary Lee Hahn at A Year of Reading (her blog with Franki Sibberson). She wrangles the calendar and gets us all signed up to take turns hosting. Thank you, Mary Lee!

Love it! Congratulations, Laura…and again, I’m so sorry to hear about your mom. I hope you & the family are doing ok.
Wonderful poem, Laura! Perfect illustration for it, too!
It’s nice to have these bright blessings in difficult times. Prayers for you and your family.
Congratulations on your poem in Cricket! Great magazine for kids. My computer was down yesterday and I just looked back at “Tractor” 15wol and read that you lost your mom yesterday. I am so sorry and send my sympathy.
Even when your parent has been sick and you kind of know that they’re going, it still really grabs you with the finality of it when they pass. Prayers and hugs for you and your family.
I am going to get a copy again prays to you and your family
