Hello, and welcome! This is 15 Words or Less Poems, a low-pressure way to wake up your poetry brain (guidelines here), and I’m very glad you’re here.
I’m back from my magnificent week on the Great Lakes! What an adventure–you will start seeing photos here soon from that!
Meanwhile…
I bought a succulent at the farmers’ market this summer. The grower said if you want to grow more of them, just lay a leaf in the soil and a new plant will grow up beside it. I thought, “What? That’s ridiculous.” Of course, the grower was correct. This image makes me think of several things:
- banana slugs
- squid ink pasta (no thank you)
- a beautiful wing.
And here’s my first draft. I was feeling a weird mix of melancholy and hope, and this is what came out…
It’s your turn! Have fun and stick to 15 WORDS OR LESS! (Title doesn’t count toward word count.)

IMAGINATION

Sow every seed
Nurture each tiny sprout
Till ideas bud and bloom
Love this sweet idea. Once a friend told me that my job was to plant seeds and leave the blooming to God.
When your life starts
on the tip of a leaf,
you grow belief in beauty.
…just stalling. LOVELY.
