For National Poetry Month 2021, I’m posting an equation poem each day. Maybe with an image, maybe without. I needed something very accessible and doable this year! Maybe you feel the same way? I’d love for you to join me, and here are several options for sharing your own or your students’ equation poems:
- in the comments below
- on social media with #EquationPoem–and be sure to tag me, please! (@LauraPSalas on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook)
- on the Padlet on my bookpage here
Here’s today’s equation poem. Things are starting to fall into place with moving. SO many elements all needing to come together very quickly, though, and all relying on other people. Anyway, I spent a lot of time this weekend packing in the basement, which inspired today’s poem. Hoping to hear a final couple pieces of news today to give me even more energy as we face all the work that’s ahead.
And if you love equation poems, check out my Snowman-Cold=Puddle: Spring Equations, published by Charlesbridge and with gorgeous art by Micha Archer.
Happy poeming!

I have so much stuff in boxes and folders and so much I love but never get to deal with.…..it is a curse and a blessing to have the room to hang onto things of old, but.…I don’t watch Marie Kondo, but think I should.
I am surrounded by books and while I love that, some day i am going to have the “right” person to gift them to! I need to find young teachers (ie former students perhaps who are becoming teachers who will make poetry a part of their students’ lives) who would want a huge poetry collection.
boxes + poetry books = golden treasure
Wow, Janet! Golden treasure is perfect! I love your equation poem!
Laura, your poem is perfect about packing and moving. Our oldest, Maegan just moved from VT, only a 3 hour drive to CO, a plane ride away. We’re happy for her and her boyfriend getting good jobs, but sad they’re so far away. We helped pack this huge U‑Haul box that will be there when they arrive. Craig, my husband and Maegan drove to CO. Her boyfriend flies out there when he’s done with his MA. Unfortunately, I can’t drive long distances so I’m not there helping to unpack. But…
airplane + sky = daughter daughter + Rocky Mountains = joy
Yay! Craig and I decided we can afford for me to fly out there soon!
