For National Poetry Month 2021, I’m posting an equation poem each day. Maybe with an image, maybe without. I needed something very accessible and doable this year! Maybe you feel the same way? I’d love for you to join me, and here are several options for sharing your own or your students’ equation poems:
- in the comments below
- on social media with #EquationPoem–and be sure to tag me, please! (@LauraPSalas on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook)
- on the Padlet on my bookpage here
Here’s today’s equation poem. I’m cleaning out files as much as possible as we prepare to move again (3rd time in 5 years)! Here’s a gem that made me feel like a dinosaur!
And if you love equation poems, check out my Snowman-Cold=Puddle: Spring Equations, published by Charlesbridge and with gorgeous art by Micha Archer.
Happy poeming!

You made me laugh out loud!!! Took a minute as well. (I never watched many videos in my day from anywhere.…I am really in the “deprived” category on shows but I do like some things I have seen on Netflix.….like Here Comes the Midwife.)
(Browsing shelves + Easy Readers) x an hour = Grandson delight
I found at the grocery store, a “Disney Princesses love to be ballerinas” Jump into Reading book while shopping last week. Perfect for the 5 year old. Nothing for the 2/1/2 yo boy jumped at me. WELL, I gave it to her discreetly but he figured it out later and then did the pouting and disappointed thing.….ie laid on the floor and sulked.….so off I go to find one for him. I need another store with more selection nearby. I did luckily have my “gift stash” the our bureau at their house so I gave him Kate Comb’s Stopping by Woods book and I think he liked the artwork a lot and sort of remembered hearing the poem.….but still, it was not a Jump into Reading Cars and Trucks variety…they just don’t have enough of those. Maybe horses would work or hiking.…he likes to hike.….Wish me luck.
I love your poem, Janet. It brings back great memories reading to our girls during the day and every night. I love reading to children in school, also. I guess this sums up what I mean:
children + books + reading = joy Thank you for the inspiration.
LOL! My girls and I used to love browsing the videos. I love Jurassic period for your solution! Yesterday, I read disturbing news about animal abusers committing horrific crimes against animals, which upset me.
(cat + dog) — abuser = shelter + love
I commend you, Laura, for taking a much needed break from the stress of moving and coming up with such an appropriate equation poem.
