?I am SO excited to announce that BookSpeak! Poems About Books (Clarion, 2011) was awarded a Eureka Gold Medal for excellence in nonfiction. This award from the California Reading Association is for?every book that is not expressly fiction.?Yay!
And Dare to Dream…Change the World (Kane Miller, 2012, edited by Jill Corcoran), a beautiful, inspirational?anthology of poems about people who have changed the world, received a Silver Medal designation. I’m proud to be part of that anthology (in a set of paired poems that Kelly Fineman and I wrote) and doubly proud to be represented in the Eurekas twice!
You can read the entire Eureka?list of 7Gold Medal Winners and 17 Silver Medal Winners here. Check it out–I’m sure you’ll find some fantastic nonfiction books to interest you.

Congratulations Laura! well-deserved honors! I was reading the online Reading Today for November 2012 from IRA. There is an interview with Ralph Fletcher. It contains a list of Outstanding Recent Poetry Publications for Children and Bookspeak made the list! There are about 15 books on the list. Not sure how non-members get to see it. If you can’t get in, I will try to print it out and bring it to NCTE to give to you!!
Thanks, Janet, and–woohoo! Re the Reading Today–Really? I am thrilled about that (especially as I am a humongous Ralph Fletcher fan!). I’m going to go look for this. Nope–can’t get to it as I’m not an IRA member (I know! Once I settle into NCTE more, I’ll be joining IRA as well). Would love it if you’re able to bring a printed-out copy. Thanks so much for letting me know:>)
Hi Laura,
I figured out a way to email it to you, but I need your address. I assume you have mine. If you don’t share that, write to Sylvia Vardell and ask her to email it to you if she will as I think she is an IRA member. The authors are Young and Hadaway and it is on page 30-31 of the latest Reading Today, which has just gone digital. I will also bring you a copy.
Best and congratulations again for Bookspeak.
